🏔️ The Adventure Unfolds
Day 1: Balea Lac Drop-off
Your adventure begins at 7:00 AM when we meet you at the agreed location and drive to Balea Lac (2,034m). This iconic starting point offers immediate immersion into the high alpine environment. After a final gear check and route briefing, you'll begin your hike along the main Fagaras ridge.
The route starts with an introduction to the most technical part of the ridge towards the second biggest peak in Romania Negoiu Peak (2,535m). It continues westward along the spectacular ridge line. The terrain is challenging but well-marked (ridge, red line), with stunning views of the Olt Valley to the north and the Arges Valley to the south.
Trust Point: As you approach Caltun Lake in the afternoon, your tent, sleeping system, and dinner supplies are already waiting in a weatherproof cache. We've been there ahead of you, ensuring everything is secure and ready.
Day 2: The Heart of the western Ridge
While you sleep comfortably at Caltun Lake, we quietly collect your previous day's cache and begin preparing the next stage. You wake refreshed, pack your day essentials, and continue west along the ridge toward Avrig Lake.
Today's route passes several significant peaks including Negoiu, Serbota, Scara and the well-known Custura Saratii, with optional detours if you see fit. The ridge walking is spectacular, with 360-degree mountain views and diverse alpine flora.
Trust Point: At Avrig Lake, your fresh gear cache awaits - clean clothes, restocked food supplies, and your familiar camp setup. We maintain the highest standards of reliability because we understand that in the mountains, trust isn't just about service - it's about safety.
Day 3: Descent to Turnu Rosu
Your final day involves the descent from the high ridge to Turnu Rosu Monastery. Before this, Budislavu and Suru peaks great you with stunning views. This is typically the most straightforward day in terms of navigation and difficulty, following well-established trails down from the alpine meadows, through diverse forest zones.
The descent offers a completely different perspective - from alpine lakes and rocky peaks to ancient forests and eventually the historic monastery setting. It's a perfect conclusion that showcases the incredible diversity of the Carpathian landscape.
Trust Point: We're waiting at Turnu Rosu Monastery at the agreed time (typically in the afternoon). Your transport back to Sibiu is ready, along with cold drinks and a debrief of your incredible journey.
